A U.N. special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories has released a report stating there are reasonable grounds to believe that Israel has committed acts of genocide in Gaza. The rapporteur mentioned that since the conflict’s beginning in October, there have been serious violations of international law, viewed as war crimes and crimes against humanity. Specific examples were cited, including the killing of thousands, predominantly women and children. The report also faced opposition from Israel and the U.S., with accusations of anti-Semitic comments made against the rapporteur. Recommendations were made for an arms embargo on Israel, an investigation, and international protection in Gaza, despite challenges in achieving international support due to opposition from the United States.
