The UN Human Rights Council has passed a resolution holding Israel accountable for possible war crimes in Gaza, calling for a halt to all arms sales to Israel. The Council highlighted warnings of “genocide” in the conflict that has caused over 33,000 deaths. The resolution was supported by 28 of the 47 member states, while the US and Germany opposed it. The Council emphasized the need to prevent further violations of humanitarian law and denounced the use of starvation of civilians in Gaza as a method of warfare. Several countries have suspended arms sales to Israel, but the US remains a key supplier. Israel’s ambassador to the UN criticized the resolution, while the Council also condemned Israel’s lack of cooperation with investigations.
