The UN Security Council is expected to vote on a resolution demanding an immediate humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza for the duration of Ramadan. The resolution, which Russia and China had previously vetoed, is backed by the Arab Group and resolutions are usually binding on all member states. The Arab Group and 10 elected council members have urged unity and urgency in voting to stop the bloodshed in Gaza, where over 32,000 Palestinians have died. The United States expressed concerns that the resolution might impact negotiations and warned of a possible American veto. The resolution calls for a two-week cease-fire for Ramadan and emphasizes the need to protect civilians and provide humanitarian aid in Gaza.
