Villagers from Loyob described Faridun Shamsiddin, a suspect in the Moscow terrorist attack, as a “coward” and expressed shock over his involvement. Shamsiddin, a convicted sex offender, denied being a practicing Muslim and claimed he carried out the attack for money. Three other Tajik citizens were also charged in the attack. Family members of the suspects in Tajikistan were interrogated. One suspect’s mother expressed disbelief and said her son was nonreligious and enjoyed social events. The suspects were apprehended in a battered state. Authorities in Tajikistan and Russia continued investigations, detaining more individuals linked to the attack.
