The United States has dropped out of the top 20 happiest countries in the world for the first time, according to the latest World Happiness Report. The US fell from 15th place last year to 23rd this year, with happiness declining across all age groups. Young people in the US were identified as the least happy age group. The report highlighted a significant decrease in happiness among the youth, with those below 30 years old ranking 62nd in happiness. On the contrary, individuals aged 60 and above ranked 10th in happiness. Researchers noted that those born before 1965 tend to be happier than those born after 1980, with millennials reporting a decrease in life satisfaction as they grow older, while the opposite was observed among baby boomers. Finland topped the rankings as the world’s happiest country, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, and Israel. Afghanistan was identified as the least happy country, trailed by Lebanon, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The report’s findings are based on individuals’ own evaluations of their lives rather than specific index factors.
