Itay Chen, a 19-year-old American-Israeli citizen serving in the Israel Defense Forces, was killed while defending civilians on the Gaza border during a Hamas attack on October 7. Chen’s family received confirmation of his death from the IDF. President Biden expressed condolences, promising to continue efforts to bring home other hostages in Hamas’ custody. Additionally, IDF stated that Chen’s body was taken into Gaza during the conflict. Hamas is still holding captive 130 people, with 32 presumed dead.
