An Indonesian search and rescue ship located a capsized wooden boat carrying Rohingya Muslim refugees off the coast of Indonesia. Survivors wept as they were rescued, with conflicting reports about fatalities. Authorities rescued 75 people, but a survivor mentioned there were originally 146 on board, leaving 71 potentially missing. The refugees had been fleeing oppressive conditions in Myanmar, with thousands attempting to escape overcrowded camps. Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, although not bound by international conventions to accept refugees, have provided temporary shelter. Tragically, many Rohingya have perished while attempting these dangerous sea crossings in the past.
