Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned in an interview with CBS News that Russian troops may launch a new offensive by late May or early June. Despite Ukrainian forces stabilizing the situation in eastern Ukraine as much as possible, there is a critical shortage of weapons. Zelensky stressed the urgent need for assistance, especially in training brigades to defend against a potential Russian counteroffensive. He highlighted the importance of air defense and artillery shells to prevent territorial loss. Ukraine faced challenges in the winter due to a lack of artillery and supplies, while Russian forces had an advantage with abundant rockets and shells. Zelensky thanked the US and European allies for their support, particularly providing missiles for air defense. He also requested additional military assistance, such as Patriot anti-missile defense systems and more artillery. Zelensky acknowledged the difficulty in facing the Russian army, which has superior artillery range. He expressed concerns that without external help, Putin’s ambitions for further invasion would not cease, potentially involving US soldiers under NATO’s Article 5.
